Oakland Climate Action Coalition
As a network of some 30 organizations that work with communities impacted by climate change, the Oakland Climate Action Coalition (OCAC) seeks to create a more resilient Oakland where all residents can survive and thrive. Since 2009, OCAC – a cross-sectoral alliance of community, labor, faith-based, and environmental groups – has worked with the City of Oakland to engage residents in the development of the Energy and Climate Action Plan (ECAP) and continues to closely work with the City to advance the ECAP’s effective and equitable implementation. For example, over half the ideas in the ECAP, one of the most progressive in the nation, came from OCAC. It serves as a replicable model for effective community-based climate resilience planning. OCAC is funded by generous contributions from the East Bay Community Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation, and the Local Sustainability Matching Fund. OCAC is also a project of Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs.
